The difference between the.SRT and.VTT format

.srt file, .vt file, what's the difference?

The.srt and.vt files are two subtitle export formats.

They are text files. They allow you to have Closed Captions on your video. That is, thanks to them, your audience can activate or deactivate subtitles at any time.

The .SRT file is more common. Also called SubRip, it contains subtitles in the form of segmented text accompanied by timecodes. YouTube, LinkedIn, Facebook, and Twitter support it.

As for the.VTT file, nothing to do with cycling! A.VTT or Web VTT file is a text file that is similar to a.SRT file. However, it contains more metadata than the.srt file. Indeed, it takes into account the style given to the subtitles (color, position...) but most readers do not display them. YouTube and Vimeo support the.VTT format
